Ideas For Self Care Through The Holidays

Whether you are the type to immediately replace your Halloween decorations with Christmas ornaments or if you prefer to celebrate Fall all November long, this time of year brings some extra stress to most of us just the same.

Between traveling and visiting with family, to shopping for gifts for the people we love, we often take care of ourselves last. You can't pour from an empty cup so here are a few ways you can practice self-care during this holiday season.

Take Care Of Your Body

The change in weather can take a toll on our immune system. You may not want to spend as much time outside now that it's colder but our bodies thrive with lots of sunshine and fresh air. Your diet is likely not optimal during the holidays either. Supplement with vitamin D and enjoy that pumpkin pie, but don't forget to eat your veggies too.

If you're not feeling your best, try to address the root issue. Dehydration can lead to headaches. Poor quality sleep and diet can cause sluggishness. All of this can suppress your immune system from protecting you against allergens. CBD honey will soothe a sore or scratchy throat. The Hemp Soap Company's Headache Blend Rollerball can quickly ease a migraine. If you can protect your body and treat symptoms naturally before turning to over-the-counter solutions, your body will thank you.

Make Time For Yourself

It can be difficult to squeeze in time for exercise and meditation but it is so worth it. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. It is so beneficial for your physical and mental health. Find how you can regularly move your body in a way you enjoy. Hike or bike through some nice trails near home. Practice yoga, or dancing, or swimming. If its fun, it won't feel like a chore. Meditation is just as valuable to your health as physical exercise is. You don't have to sit quietly for 30 minutes straight to benefit. Breathing intentionally for just a few minutes can do so much. It will make you feel better, guaranteed.

Practice Gratitude

Take some time in the morning or before bed to consider all that you are grateful for. It is Thanksgiving, after all. Write down at least 10 things every day. It may be difficult to think of that many at first. Once this becomes part of your routine, you'll find yourself noticing all the little pleasures in life. Set reminders on your phone to practice mindfulness. Really take in what you see, smell, and hear. You might hear a baby laugh in the grocery store you'd normally not notice and your shopping trip is not so bad. A smell might trigger a happy holiday memory and make you smile which brightens a stranger's day. Mindfulness is powerful.

Relax And Have Fun

If you are like most, your chore list seems to grow during this time of year. You want a clean home when family visits. There are big dinners to prepare and pies to bake. There are cookies and trees to decorate. A final piece of advice to get you through this holiday season, is to make it all enjoyable. Light a CBD-Infused Candle to help you relax, play some holiday music (or whatever YOU like) and dance your way from the laundry room to the kitchen.

This is a season for giving but don't forget to fill your own cup first. Take care of yourself and the people you love will be happier for it.

Happy Holidays!
